About The Dance House & Miss Joy
I am a mother of 5 first and foremost...but my true passion has always been about my sport..Dance...I am trained in Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Ballet,Pointe, Modern and Gymnastics. I was a former cheerleader for my town. I have done many pageants where I was the holder of many titles. I was brought up in a small town in Sussex County NJ..where being apart of the NY and Hollywood spotlight was highly unusual for most but not for us..I came from an entertainment family, my parents were avid performers and my father was a singer and performer. They graced the many stages in the 70's that started the industry off. My parents were at one point referred to as the Country Western King and Queen. I was born and bred in the business...I started off as a performing toddler with them and then was brought to NY where I was discovered as a child model...I worked under the lil Rascal's Modeling agency which was the source for many child actors and models that are huge and famous today...I was the first Cabbage Patch Kid, and Strawberry Shortcake Model just to name a few. I was Macy's first child model and formerly Bamberger's I worked on the cover of Women's Day Magazine, and other various adds and magazines for famous companies. I worked on most projects as a cute face. But when the music would turn on for the photo shoots something in me would just not keep me still..I was a DANCER!!! After leaving NY to focus on just being a kid and being in my family...I was kept busy with numerous genres of dance all for the end result ...To Be On Stage!!!!! I graced the beautiful stage in Trenton NJ, where I can proudly say that was when the star in me was born. The thrill of showcasing my own hard work and dedication under the spotlights was and is a memory that if I close my eyes it could feel like it just happened. After that there was no turning back...I won numerous high score awards, scholarships, best entertainer, top dancer of the day...I was involved in many competitions of greatness...Showstoppers, Encore, StarSystems, StarPower and Star Bound just to name a few. And to this day I enjoy taking some of my own students back to where I came from is very rewarding. My passion for children has never changed. I started student teaching at only 12yrs. old...and knew then that I was meant to teach. I worked at various schools under many talented directors and teachers in NJ...I sold my own choreography and performed with some of the greatest in the industry. Nothing compares to being apart of a team with some of the greatest people you could ever meet in your sport. So it began for me at an early age ....and am thrilled to see my students that I have known and taught continue on in dance and become teachers and profile dancers for the industry.
After closing my first school in 2007 and moving to Middlesex County I was stunned to find out how much of it I would miss and How much of me was not still alive. I am a dancer, and a teacher, I know nothing else, so giving it up was not an option ...then when I fell into a job at the community center in Woodbridge NJ. The response to me was very overwhelming.....I had a program of 12 kids that soon jumped to 145 kids in 2 mos. I then realized how much I had missed this and how much more I had wanted. After renting hours at various places with my students who could not get into my classes I stumbled upon a family friend with a location/dance studio for rent on a sunny Sunday afternoon. A week later I was in Business once again. My job is amazing, I am bonded with many different children, ages, races, and most importantly we teach each other. Nothing is more thrilling than to walk into a room and see that child who was struggling to learn a new step went home and practiced on summer vacation and then came in the following week able to do it. I am also thrilled to know that my so called job is not just a job, it's a passion...And it's MY PASSION!
